Pli\u00e9 sous le fardeau, nous courbons du c\u00f4t\u00e9 du mal-\u00eatre\u2026 en g\u00e9missant : \u00ab&nbsp;Ce mal-\u00eatre\u2026 c\u2019est ma routine\u2026 c\u2019est ma douleur\u2026 alors pourquoi en changer ?&nbsp;\u00bb Comme un malade qui ne sent plus la puanteur de ses plaies, nous repoussons le m\u00e9decin. Nous donnons foi \u00e0 notre souffrance. Nous aimons notre blessure. Et, nous esp\u00e9rons que de notre mal sortira magiquement l\u2019issue qu\u2019il nous a toujours refus\u00e9e.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans cet \u00e9vangile, J\u00e9sus propose la conversion du malheur en libert\u00e9. Le \u00ab&nbsp;joug&nbsp;\u00bb est une pi\u00e8ce de bois qui relie deux animaux de trait pour qu\u2019ils mettent un chariot en mouvement. Le joug qui nous att\u00e8le au Christ est l\u00e9ger, car, c\u2019est le joug de la libert\u00e9 : \u00ab&nbsp;L\u2019Esprit du Seigneur (\u2026) m\u2019a envoy\u00e9 porter la Bonne Nouvelle aux pauvres, annoncer aux captifs leur lib\u00e9ration, et (\u2026) remettre en libert\u00e9 les opprim\u00e9s&nbsp;\u00bb (Luc 4,18-19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais, sans le Christ, le joug de l\u2019existence est bien pesant. De nombreuses \u00e2mes ne se relient qu\u2019\u00e0 leur propre d\u00e9tresse dans un duo morbide. Et quand la mort m\u00e8ne l\u2019attelage\u2026 o\u00f9 le chariot se rend-t-il ? Il existe des \u00e2mes enferm\u00e9es en elles-m\u00eames comme dans un pi\u00e8ge. Comme le raton laveur, pris dans une trappe, se ronge une patte pour essayer de recouvrer la libert\u00e9, ces \u00e2mes se mutilent en esp\u00e9rant se sauver. Sous la pesanteur du malheur, elles s\u2019effondrent sur elles-m\u00eames. L\u2019\u00e2me ne croit pouvoir s\u2019\u00e9chapper qu\u2019en se d\u00e9truisant. Enferm\u00e9e dans sa souffrance comme dans un donjon aux murailles de plus en plus hautes, l\u2019\u00e2me ne per\u00e7oit du monde ext\u00e9rieur que ce que les meurtri\u00e8res d\u00e9coupent dans la vie des autres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9crivain Honor\u00e9 de Balzac fit le r\u00e9cit d\u2019une \u00e2me close qui ne v\u00e9cut que pour la vengeance : <em>La Cousine Bette<\/em> est l&#8217;histoire de la vengeance que Lisbeth Fischer fomenta contre sa trop belle cousine Adeline qui incarnait \u00e0 ses yeux la r\u00e9ussite sociale et conjugale dont elle se sentait l\u00e9s\u00e9e. D\u2019abord r\u00e9sign\u00e9e \u00e0 son statut de parente pauvre recueillie par piti\u00e9, Lisbeth d\u00e9ploya son intelligence dans la vengeance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab Lisbeth Fischer (\u2026) \u00e9tait loin d\u2019\u00eatre belle comme sa cousine ; aussi avait-elle \u00e9t\u00e9 prodigieusement jalouse d\u2019Adeline.&nbsp;\u00bb (p.56) La famille Fischer fit le choix d\u2019aduler la belle Adeline au d\u00e9triment de Lisbeth au physique ingrat. \u00ab&nbsp;La famille, qui vivait en commun, avait immol\u00e9 la fille vulgaire \u00e0 la jolie fille, le fruit \u00e2pre \u00e0 la fleur \u00e9clatante. Lisbeth travaillait \u00e0 la terre, quand sa cousine \u00e9tait dorlot\u00e9e ; aussi lui arriva-t-il un jour, trouvant Adeline seule, de vouloir lui arracher le nez, un vrai nez grec que les vieilles femmes admiraient.&nbsp;Quoique battue pour ce m\u00e9fait, elle n\u2019en continua pas moins \u00e0 d\u00e9chirer les robes de la privil\u00e9gi\u00e9e.\u00bb (p.57) \u00ab Dou\u00e9e d\u2019une finesse devenue profonde&nbsp;\u00bb, Lisbeth concentra en elle la haine n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 sa vengeance : \u00ab&nbsp;M\u00e9chante, elle e\u00fbt brouill\u00e9 la famille la plus unie. \u00bb Lisbeth s\u2019enivra de son propre regard : avec un \u00ab regard per\u00e7ant&nbsp;\u00bb, \u00ab&nbsp;elle se contenta, disait-elle en riant, de sa propre admiration.\u00bb (p.59)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lisbeth ingurgitait goutte \u00e0 goutte son indignit\u00e9 comme un m\u00e9dicament aval\u00e9 par habitude. Bien que dilu\u00e9 dans la routine, ce toxique se r\u00e9pandait profond\u00e9ment dans toutes les cellules de son corps : \u00ab la cousine Bette, r\u00e9sign\u00e9e \u00e0 ne rien \u00eatre, se laissait traiter sans fa\u00e7on ; elle se refusait elle-m\u00eame \u00e0 venir aux grands d\u00eeners, en pr\u00e9f\u00e9rant l\u2019intimit\u00e9 qui lui permettait d\u2019avoir sa valeur et d\u2019\u00e9viter des souffrances d\u2019amour-propre.\u00bb (p.59-60). Les contours de son \u00e2me s\u2019effa\u00e7aient. Lisbeth se r\u00e9signa \u00e0 son inf\u00e9riorit\u00e9 : \u00ab Elle avait fini par comprendre la vie en se voyant \u00e0 la merci de tout le monde \u00bb (p.60). Son \u00e2me distillait jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019ivresse les injustices subies dans l\u2019alambic des souvenirs recuits : devenue adulte, Lisbeth \u00ab&nbsp;\u00e9tait toujours l\u2019enfant qui voulait arracher le nez de sa cousine, et qui peut-\u00eatre, si elle n\u2019\u00e9tait devenue raisonnable, l\u2019aurait tu\u00e9e en un paroxysme de jalousie.&nbsp;\u00bb (p.60) Un jour par vengeance, Lisbeth blessa cruellement sa ni\u00e8ce Hortense : \u00ab Quelques larmes vinrent dans les yeux d\u2019Hortense, et Bette les lapa du regard comme une chatte boit du lait. \u00bb (p.230)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans ce roman, Lisbeth s\u2019attela \u00e0 la vengeance. Elle refusa la libert\u00e9 qui consistait \u00e0 laisser partir le mal qui mutile sa vie. Elle prit sur ses \u00e9paules le terrible joug de l\u2019obsession. La douleur de la vengeance d\u00e9chira sa vie comme les \u00e9chardes d\u2019un bois trop lourd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pourtant, le joug de la libert\u00e9 n\u2019est-il pas plus l\u00e9ger ? Devenir le disciple de Celui qui dit :&nbsp; \u00ab&nbsp;je suis doux et humble de c\u0153ur&nbsp;\u00bb n\u2019est-il pas pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable aux puanteurs d\u2019une arrogante brutalit\u00e9 ? Qu\u2019est-ce que porter le joug du Christ ? Donner sa foi au ma\u00eetre de la Vie. Soutenir sa route par le pain de l\u2019Amour.
